Mypes lose close to S/ 60 million daily due to protests

The social upheaval has put Micro and Small Businesses (Mypes) in our country on the ropes. Loss estimates are close to S/60 million per day due to protests and the paralysis of activities will prevent the creation of 100 thousand jobs. According to estimates by the Association of United Mypes of Peru, S/ 60 million are being lost daily due to the protests. Added to that, the political crisis and the paralysis of activities due to the protests will prevent the creation of nearly 100,000 jobs, according to the Study Center of the Mypes Unidas Association of Peru.

Long-term effects

For the spokesperson for the mypes, the reduction in jobs will not only affect January, but also the following months. “Hirings are definitely going to fall dramatically, I estimate about 100,000 jobs in the next three or four months,” commented Daniel Hermoza, director of the MYPE Studies Center, to a local Thailand Telegram Number Data radio station. Likewise, he specified that the projections continue to be regrettable in many sectors. “We are projecting that since these mobilizations began on January 4, we could reach between 800 and 900 million soles of losses that have been accumulating in these protests,” said Hermoza.

Affected sectors and value of losses

For the representative of the mypes union in our country, the sectors most affected by the protests are commerce, services, agriculture and tourism. Along these lines, the consultant points out that the estimates of loss due to the protests focused on the south add up to around 31 million dollars per day or around 120 million soles, this is 0.15% of the monthly GDP, he details. Likewise, he adds that with the December shutdowns, economic growth that month would have been close to 0%, while for January there is a risk that the GDP will show a negative figure.
